Return of the lapsed blogger

Head back over parapet!  Having failed to make time to post from the work trip in Paris and deliberately taken time out from anything resembling IT during my holiday last week, I return restored and resolved to blog industriously.

 La Defense

In Paris I was based in the heart of La Defense, that vast glass and concrete commercial area – I still can’t decide whether it’s utterly amazing and wonderful or inhuman and alienating.   I then spent the best part of a week on the Isle of Lewis including a visit to the beach at Uig which extends so far that at first you can’t even hear the sea.  The silence was almost complete except for the distant sound of a hammer on wood which had the effect of emphasising the utter quiet.

I’m still reflecting on these varied impressions – more anon!

I love La Defense. Especially on a hard bright morning in winter when it seems empty and surreal. The first time we went there, Ewan (aged 13) was inspired to use it as the setting for the finale of a story he was writing over the holiday ….

Yeah, I was tired and a bit fragile so rather overwhelmed but it did have that excitement I first got at Futuroscope – the sheer sweeping vision of French architecture.
