Publication! Another toot on the trumpet.

I’ve now received my copy of Scottish Plays for Schools  in which appears one of mine entitled ‘Between the Lines’.  It’s a smartly produced publication with clear type and good graphics.  Very exciting to feature in a mainstream publisher’s catalogue.  Schools can have an inspection copy on request; the launch will be at the annual schools conference of the Association for Scottish Literary Studies, the co-publisher.  I’m delighted to be in company with Charles Barron, Moira Burgess, Anne Donovan, Iain Mills and Janet Paisley.

My play is about a Glasgow family and how they react when the eldest son returns home from his first army leave.  It’s set between the two Gulf wars and though it explores serious issues, it has its funny side.  Like many Glasgow families, affection and concerned is often expressed through jokes and banter.

Naturally I hope that English departments in schools will buy it – not because we get royalties, we don’t, but because I want it to be enjoyed.  The next challenge is to get it performed!

Congrats! Almost makes me wish I was back in the classroom so’s I could insist on having it for a class! I shall, however, do my best to flag it up ….
