L’art du silence

The recent death of Marcel Marceau prompted me to look up the Wikipedia entry for him.  I was fascinated to read that he led hundreds of Jewish boys through Switzerland to safety by posing as a scoutmaster taking them hiking.   He joined the Free French Forces and later worked as a liaison officer in Patton’s army, because of his excellent spoken English.  Ironic really considering his subsequent career was silent.

It was said of him, ‘He accomplishes in less than two minutes what most novelists cannot do in volumes.’  Hmm.
